The iPad is an awesome tool and toy. This device will allow you to take pictures, record videos, download music, browse the Internet, and more. If you don't know what the iPad offers, you'll never take full advantage of it. Keep reading for great iPad tips.

Parental controls are important if you have a family. Go to General settings tab and select "enable restrictions" to ban access to mature content. If your child is going to be on the Internet, you should do this.

Lots of people know about the store for iTunes on the iPad, but don't really know what all it offers. iTunes U is pretty interesting. This will give you podcasts that are educational in nature so that you can broaden your learning base.

When reading books on your iPad, try turning down the brightness of the screen. You can usually do that by going to Settings and clicking Brightness, but you can use another way. This app comes complete with its own screen dimmer, accessible from within the app.

Do you want the option of finding your own iPad if you have lost it? Simply enter the Settings menu and access iCloud. Add your account's Apple ID and turn on the app. If you ever have the misfortune of losing the iPad, then hop onto iCloud.com.

If you need to mute an iPad, try this simple trick. Just hold down the volume button for two full seconds. This is a lot quicker than going through the settings. If you want the volume to revert back to the original level, just hold down the button again.

Open new webpages using a new tab to keep your current webpage open. While in Safari, hold the link and a pop-up menu appears. This pop-up menu provides you with the opportunity to use a new tab to open an additional link.

Does tapping the bookmark menu take too much time? Simply enable your bookmarks bar on a permanent basis to keep your favorite websites a click away. Go to Settings, Safari, Always Show the Bookmarks Bar, and select On.

Backing up your iPad is a very important task. There are also settings which allow the iPad to delete all memory if someone attempts to crack the password. This feature can be found under your general settings. Simply click Password Lock and turn it on. This feature will erase your data if a password is entered incorrectly ten times.

If you have Apple TV, you are able to stream things from your iPad to that device. Airplay lets you see what you can stream, so tap it and no matter if you're looking at a video or a slideshow, it will show on your TV within seconds.

Copying text on an iPad is easy, as all you have to do is just double tap a given keyword. But, this is not the ideal method to use if you need to copy a large volume of text. Instead, tap four times on the text you want to copy and the paragraph will be highlighted. This doesn't just work for paragraphs, it works for the URL bar as well as addresses.

If you see that volume buttons aren't functioning, simply navigate to Settings-General-Sounds. Select Change With Buttons and it will work again. You can use the slider to change the volume, too.
